Shoe Care and Tips
Keeping Shoes in Top Conditions
- If the soles of your shoes are slippery, rub them with a bit of sandpaper.
- If they’re sticky, give them a shot of talcum powder.
- Place orange peel in your smelly shoes overnight and they’ll be citrus fresh the next morning.

Stain Removing
- Spruce up black leather by rubbing it with the inside of the rind of an orange.
- Bring suede shoes back to life with a good steam over a hot kettle.
- Give patent shoes a real gleam with a rub of Vaseline or a spritz of household Pledge.
- If you run out of shoes polish, a banana skin acts as a good polish for brown boots or shoes. There’s no need to shine them - simply leave them to dry.

Tips on Shopping for Shoes that Fit
Picking shoes that fit require more than knowing the length and width of your feet. You need to learn about the shape and movement of your feet, too. There are three different types of feet based on the height of your arches: flat (low arch), normal, high arch. Next time you are standing near a pool, get your foot wet, then step on dry pavement. If you see most of the bottom of your foot, you have a flat arch. If you only see the ball and heel of your foot with a narrow line connecting them, you have a high arch. Most of us fall somewhere in between. If your arch is flat, you are probably an “overpronator” (your foot may roll inward too much, foot and ankle have problems stabilizing your body and shock isn’t absorbed properly). If you have high arches, you are an “underpronator” (meaning the force of impact is not evenly distributed, resulting in too much shock traveling up your legs when you walk or run). Learn your style and let it guide you when you decide among heel heights, shapes, etc.

Size Conversion
If you unsure that about the size of any shoes featured in this blog, it’s usually best to contact the shoe retailer.
Please note that this size conversion table is simply a guide, therefore taking into consideration the style of shoe - pointed toe, almond shaped, squared toe, peep or open before making a final decision. For example, I am a die hard UK Size 12 but sometimes I find myself going for UK Size 13.
